Though Yellowstone is still considered one of the most rugged wilderness areas of North America, that doesn't mean its campgrounds or RV parks are as primitive. Pretty much any modern amenity you see in RV parks or campgrounds throughout the U.S., you'll find in the facilities in and around the Park.
If you are considering staying inside Yellowstone Park, camping and campsites are administered either through the National Park Service or the park lodging concessionaire, Xanterra Parks and Resorts. They are well maintained, offer excellent locations and supportive services (most with stores, washing facilites, fuel stations, dining options and interpretive centers) and are located at most major attraction points along highway routes.
Outside the Park, you have your choice of public campgrounds (administered by either BLM or USFS offices) or private camping businesses. Should you be driving larger-sized trailers or big-rig style RVs, government-run facilities may not be able to handle your needs. And for that matter, some private parks may have a RIG-Size restriction, so be sure to check these details closely.
By having your lodging with you at all times, those who camp or have a trailer or RV can literally pick-up and go where they want any time they want. That is why we encourage you to visit the links of all our suppliers, regardless of their gateway community in which they are located, so you get a sense of the unique opportunities available in that town, and how you might incorporate them into your overall trip agenda. Even those located 100-200 miles from any of Yellowstone's boundaries offer some fun and exciting local attractions that just might pique your curiosity.
